Gas prices fall for 9 consecutive days

NEW YORK, July 26 (UPI) -- U.S. gas prices have fallen nine straight days to a cost of less than $4 a gallon, the cheapest gas has been in nearly two months, a survey indicates.

A national survey conducted by the motorist group AAA revealed the cost of regular unleaded gasoline fell 2 cents to an average price of $3.983 a gallon, CNNMoney reported Saturday.

AAA said it used records of credit card charges at gas stations in the survey.

The 2-cent drop provides some relief for U.S. drivers, who have been struggling to keep up with spiking fuel costs amid a sluggish economy.

The national average price of gas surpassed $4 a gallon June 7, when the price went up to $4.005 a gallon, records show.

CNNMoney said gas prices spiked at $4.114 a gallon July 16.
